Lavender Cottage and Dales Cottage are cosy, wood beamed cottages with wood burning stoves in Wharfedale, an area of outstanding natural beauty, in the lower Yorkshire Dales. Tucked away close to the town centre of Skipton with views over the canal, rests the charming Dray Cottage.
Lavender Cottage and Dales Cottage are situated in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Lavender Cottage lies on the 2014 Tour de France cycle route and Dales Cottage is on the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire cycle route, both being only a ten minutes drive from the bustling market town of Skipton and less than a mile from the charming and lively village of Grassington.
Grassington is noted as one of the best loved villages in the Yorkshire Dales and is very popular for walkers, anglers, cyclists, rock climbers, pot holers, golfers and those just wanting a day out in the countryside. Grassington also hosts a wide variety of events throughout the year including Grassington Music & Arts Festival, Dickensian Festival, and a 40’s weekend.
There is a large selection of places to eat around the area, a few of which are listed below. Copies of menus are available in the cottage.
This place is in a perfect location for walking and we hardly got in the car. There were loads of lovely pubs within walking distance which was a real bonus. Sophie the owner was lovely - we had a small issue with the boiler and she came out very early on a Saturday morning to sort it which we really appreciated. Will definitely be coming back. Would highly recommend this cottage. Reviewed by Sandra
Cottage was exactly as described. We had a really nice gesture of cake and prosecco when we arrived. Really comfortable, well-fitted out cottage. Maps, books were great for local area, and games etc for kids. The parking situation was exactly as described with a free place in the public car park on the opposite side of the road, we never parked more than 20-40 yards away, and we could park one car directly outside the house. A bit of to-ing and fro-ing with visitors on the road outside with those coming to the Falls, but actually really quiet inside. Really easy footpath access up into Grassington itself over the footbridge, or onto river footpaths both up and down, which also made it a really great location. Great area. Reviewed by Tony
The second time we have stayed at Dales Cottage and it was even better than the first! A fantastic property with everything you need and more and in a wonderful location for walking and exploring the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. Reviewed by Jordan
Fantastic cottage, we loved staying here, spacious, comfortable, warm, plenty of hot water, cozy beds and absolutely everything you could need in the kitchen. Perfectly located for a Yorkshire Dales getaway, Sophie’s lovely home was just what we needed for a stay with four ranging from 4 years to 74 years…thank you for having us!
Lovely cottage in a peaceful location in Threshfield just about a mile walk from Grassington. Just as it appears in the photos. Clean, well equipped and cosy. The delicious cake waiting for us was very welcome. Ample supply of wood for the log burner which is unusual.Easy parking for one car just in front of the cottage. We would love to come back. Very comfortable cottage with some nice touches, the fire laid ready for lighting, Christmas decorations and a bottle of fizz and mince pies welcomed us on arrival WiFi, tv with Netflix, Amazon video all added to the experience, night light on the landing a nice little touch too!" Kitchen was well equipped and has quality crockery and small appliances! Our furry friend was also catered for with blanket and clearly welcomed too. I’m sure we shall return to the cottage din the not too distant future. Reviewed by David
A wonderful place to stay. With bags of character, a cosy feel and a log fire with all the fuel you need, it's ideal for a winter break. Host Sophie was very welcoming and laid out cake, chocs, milk and fizz for our arrival. Located in a pretty village, it's an ideal base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales and there's plenty of entertainment for rainy days too, with good wifi, Internet TV, toys and dvds. Highly recommended!
We had a lovely time at Sophie's cottage. It's very well located to explore the Dales, with a small SPAR down the round for all basic needs. The cake that Sophie made was delicious, and the fizz a nice gesture - it felt very welcoming on entrance. Sophie has clearly invested in the property, with a great rain shower and bathroom, and the fire was well-stocked with wood. Also a nice gesture was the fact that the wood burning stove had been set-up in advance, so you just had to light it. It's those kind of things which make the cottage feel welcoming. It's accurately described, and ideal for a couple, small family.
Lovely cosy cottage in great location to explore all that Skipton has to offer."
Lovely and clean with everything you need. Great shower, tv and hairdryer in both bedrooms. Lovely welcome with a homemade cake and prosecco in fridge...cake was delicious. Lots of places to eat and Skipton has a vibrant market and town centre and some lovely places to walk. Fab little cottage situated next to the canal in a great location.

Manor House, Rylstone, Skipton, BD23 6LH
Approaching Skipton on the A629, A59 or A65, take the northern bypass (A59/A65). At the roundabout where the B6265 intersects with the bypass, take the B6265 – signed Grassington. The distances I give will be from this point. Keep to the main road.
After 0.3 miles you will see The Craven Heiffer Public House on your right. After 3.8 miles you will enter the small village of Rylstone – famous for it’s ‘Calendar Girls’ – with its village pond on your left. At 4.7 miles you will enter the village of Cracoe - NB –there is a 40 mph limit. Then at 6.0 miles you will pass Swinden Quarry on the left. Just after this take the right hand turning onto Lauradale Lane and continue through the small village of Linton and passing the village green and pretty stream on the right.
Continue until you reach the end a crossroads. Drive straight over the junction onto Church Road. Take the right hand turning at the bottom of the hill.
Continue until you come to a row of white terrace houses on the left and Dales Cottage (or number 22 Linton Falls) is the first house on the left hand side opposite the National Parks Car Park.
Park in the car park (permit provided in cottage) or in front of the house.

You will soon then come into Threshfield. At 7.5 miles you should have the village Inn “The Old Hall” on your left. Take the road on your right directly opposite to the Inn. On your right there is a village green and on your left a row of cottages. Lavender Cottage is the last cottage in the row, with a narrow road on your left immediately beyond it.
The best way to approach Dray Cottage is from Swadford Street/Broughton Rd which is near the centre of Skipton as Coach Street is a one way street. Turn off Swadford Street onto Coach Street which has Bizzie Lizzie fish and chip shop on the corner. Go past a few shops and restaurants and Canal street is the 3rd turning on the right, just after Chic Hair studio and before the Canal Bridge.
Dray Cottage is the second cottage on the right hand side before the Royal Shepherd pub. It might be helpful to drop your bags off by pulling up outside the cottage and then parking the car once you have unloaded. You can turn the car around further up Canal Street.
There is a front door key kept in a black key safe just in front of the garage doors on the pub side of the cottage.
There will be a weekly car park ticket left for you in the cottage on the kitchen table and the car park entrance is just the other side of the Canal Bridge on the Left Hand Side.
There is a train station in Skipton with regular trains from Leeds and Bradford. The cottage is situated about a five – ten minute walk from the Station. Turn right out of the station and walk past Morrisons supermarket and B&M Stores. Continue up the hill and over the canal bridge. When you arrive at Bizzie Lizzie’s fish and chip shop turn left onto Coach Street. Walk up Canal Street until you reach Chic Hair Studio and turn right there. Dray Cottage is the second door on the right hand side.
